Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Deaf and Hard of Hearing Educator to join our team. As an integral member of our special education department, you will play a crucial role in empowering students who are deaf and hard of hearing to achieve their full potential. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of students and contribute to their academic and personal growth. This position will serve K-12 caseload, is on-site only, and is itinerant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf and hard of hearing, ensuring alignment with state standards and educational goals.
  • Provide direct instruction and support in various subjects and skills, utilizing specialized teaching strategies and resources tailored to the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents/guardians, and support staff to create a cohesive learning environment that promotes student engagement and success.
  • Utilize assistive technology and communication tools effectively to enhance learning experiences and facilitate communication among students, teachers, and peers.
  • Monitor student progress, assess educational outcomes, and adjust teaching methods as necessary to ensure continuous improvement and achievement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Deaf Education, Special Education with a focus on Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or a related field (Masters degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification/license in Deaf Education or Special Education (or eligibility to obtain certification).
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with other communication modes used by individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Experience working with students who are deaf and hard of hearing, preferably in a school setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents/guardians, and community stakeholders.
