SVS Group currently has a full time direct hire opportunity for a Tool Design Engineer for one of our Aerospace clients in the W. Phoenix area.

Responsibilities: Include the following; other duties may be assigned.

  • Studies specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and manufacturing data and confers with engineering and manufacturing personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, manufacturing processes and equipment in a cost effective manner.
  • Applies algebraic and geometric formulas and standard tool engineering concepts to develop tool configurations.
  • Utilizes standard vendor supplied tooling components in tool designs.
  • Ability to handle all NPI phases and interfaces (tooling, customer service, production control) until production readiness.
  • Develop manufacturing process, create BOM’s & routers, design and deploy manufacturing tools & fixtures.
  • Collect and utilize process data to improve tooling and manufacturing processes.
  • Plan and execute new manufacturing process projects for transfer to production operations.

Education and Experience:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college/university or certified journeyman tool maker.
  • Must have at least five years of hands-on tooling experience; sheet metal fabrication experience a plus.
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret work instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply GD&T effectively to tool designs.
  • Computer skills must include proficiency with Solidworks or similar CAD software and MS Office products.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and open to ideas and suggestions from others regarding tool design concepts.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to efficiently work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of rapid tool prototyping is a plus.
  • Familiarity with MRP system.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finer, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The work environment for this position is within an office setting; however, there is limited exposure to the factory environment to review the status of routers, BOMs, and station plans as needed. This position does not provide labor or direct supervision.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to use standard measuring equipment (i.e. calipers, dial indicators, etc).
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
