We are seeking a highly motivated Sourcing Specialist to join our client’s growing team in the logistics and freight forwarding sector.
· Position: Sourcing Specialist (Logistics and Freight Forwarding)
· Client Industry: Logistics and Supply Chain Services
· Location: 100% Onsite – La Porte, TX 77571
· Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM
· Salary: Up to $70K (DOE) + Benefits
· Start Date: Beginning of 2025
· Position Type: Direct Hire, Full-Time
This role is crucial in sourcing a variety of logistics services and procurement tasks, including air freight, sea freight, rail, warehousing, and project cargo. The ideal candidate will be responsible for finding the best vendors, negotiating favorable rates, managing vendor relationships, and optimizing logistics operations across multiple modes of transportation.
Key Responsibilities
Sourcing & Supplier Management
Identify and evaluate potential suppliers for logistics services, including air freight, sea freight, rail, warehousing, and project cargo.
Source new vendors for various operational needs, including lashing gear, pallet suppliers, and forklift vendors.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure a diverse and reliable vendor base.
Evaluate warehouse locations and rates to identify the most cost-effective solutions for the business.
Vendor Negotiation & Contracting
Negotiate favorable pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to optimize service quality and reduce logistics costs.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and develop tailored contracts that meet business needs.
Implement continuous improvement strategies with suppliers to enhance service levels and reduce overall costs.
Payment Terms & Rate Management
Establish and negotiate payment terms with suppliers that align with the company's financial objectives.
Monitor payment processes to ensure adherence to agreed terms.
Obtain and analyze competitive rates for logistics services, maintaining a comprehensive rate database and regularly updating pricing structures.
Onboarding & Qualification
Lead the qualification and onboarding process for new suppliers, including completing necessary documentation and training.
Ensure smooth integration of suppliers into the company's operational framework.
Project Cargo Expertise
Manage sourcing and logistics for special project cargo, collaborating closely with project teams to develop and execute tailored logistics solutions.
Find the best-fit vendors and services for complex project cargo needs, ensuring successful project execution.
Centralizing Operations
Contribute to the centralization of sourcing operations within the Houston office, promoting efficiency and alignment across functions.
Work to find the best warehouse locations and rates that support the company’s strategic objectives.
Internal Talent Development
Support the promotion of internal candidates to higher positions, helping to foster a culture of growth and development within the team.
Key Skills & Requirements
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field, or 4-6 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
Proven experience as a Sourcing Specialist or in a similar role within the logistics/freight forwarding industry.
Core Competencies
Strong negotiation skills with a demonstrated track record of achieving cost savings and securing favorable contracts.
Experience with all modes of transportation: air freight, sea freight, and rail.
Familiarity with warehousing and project cargo logistics services.
Experience sourcing non-logistics items such as lashing gear, pallets, and forklifts.
Strong project management, organizational, and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage across diverse teams.
Additional Qualifications
Project management experience within the logistics industry is advantageous.
Experience with centralizing operations and identifying cost-effective logistics solutions across multiple locations.
