Position Title: Educational Technology Specialist

Overview:

The Society for Technical Communication is seeking an Educational Technology Specialist to enhance our instructional design capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Hybrid and HyFlex Learning: Collaborate with educators to facilitate hybrid and HyFlex learning models. Build strong relationships with faculty to assess their needs and those of their students. Provide expert guidance on best practices in hybrid and HyFlex education.
  • Professional Development Initiatives: Design and deliver workshops, training sessions, and seminars focused on educational technology tools and effective teaching strategies. Curate a comprehensive library of resources, including tutorials and guides, for faculty and staff.
  • Promote Inclusive Learning: Integrate principles of accessibility and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) into all instructional materials. Advocate for inclusive practices within the educational technology framework.
  • Drive Innovation: Serve as a proactive change agent, leveraging technology to transform teaching and learning experiences. Stay informed about the latest trends and innovations in instructional design and educational methodologies.
  • Collaborative Team Contribution: Engage as a vital member of the instructional design and technology team, fostering a culture of teamwork and open communication to achieve shared objectives.
  • Technical Support and Training: Offer ongoing technical assistance and training for the institution's Learning Management System (LMS) and other educational tools.
  • Project Management: Utilize project management tools to effectively plan and execute various instructional design projects.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in instructional design, particularly in developing hybrid courses.
  • Experience in higher education settings.
  • Classroom teaching experience is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in applying Universal Design for Learning and other instructional design theories.
  • Adept at researching and implementing scholarly practices in teaching and learning.
  • Ability to create user-friendly and visually appealing educational resources.
  • Strong listening and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in developing engaging professional development opportunities.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • Familiarity with a variety of academic technologies.

Work Environment:

This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including potential evening and weekend hours. The role involves extended periods of computer use.
