New York, New York, United States Block Full time
Job Overview

Company Overview:
Block is a collective of diverse teams, all dedicated to the shared mission of economic empowerment. Our foundational teams — including People, Finance, Legal, Hardware, Information Security, and Platform Infrastructure Engineering — collaborate across various business units and global locations to develop inclusive policies, forecast financial strategies, provide legal guidance, safeguard systems, and nurture innovative initiatives. Every challenge presents an opportunity, and we value diverse perspectives to navigate them. Join us at Block.

Position Summary:

As a vital member of the Asset Backed Capital Markets team, you will contribute significantly to the strategic planning and capital market requirements of Block's lending divisions. Our lending branches cater to both small businesses and consumers, offering established products like Square Loans and Afterpay receivables, as well as newer initiatives currently in development.

Your role will involve collaborating with team members to manage existing relationships with third-party institutions and assist in sourcing new lenders and investors for Afterpay. You will also explore innovative funding structures for Block's emerging lending products. Additionally, this position will serve as an alternate contact for Square Loans, supporting the ongoing growth of Block's lending operations and enhancing product offerings across the Block ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, document, and implement funding structures, including forward flow arrangements, warehouse facilities, and securitizations.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including banks, institutional investors, legal advisors, auditors, and business units.
  • Collaborate with product and data teams to understand product roadmaps and asset performance for effective communication with external funding partners.
  • Contribute to Block's funding growth strategy, product roadmap, and performance tracking by analyzing and evaluating current systems and structures.
  • Maintain operational policies and procedures.
  • Represent Block Capital Markets at industry conferences and panels as needed.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to individuals and teams to enhance capital markets capabilities.

This role is crucial for the sustained success of Block's lending products and offers an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to make a significant impact while strengthening their skills in strategy development and execution.

Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in debt capital markets, structured finance, and/or investor relations.
  • Experience in consumer and small business lending.
  • Proficiency in managing financing transactions, including loan sales agreements and warehouse lending agreements.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a proven ability to innovate.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills in a global team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with SQL or Python is advantageous.
Additional Information:

Block adopts a market-based approach to compensation, which may vary based on location. U.S. locations are categorized into zones based on a labor cost index. The starting pay for successful candidates will be determined by job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.

Benefits:
Full-time employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare coverage, retirement plans with company match, employee stock purchase programs, wellness initiatives, paid parental leave, and paid time off, among others.
