Position Overview

The Clinical Nutrition Consultant is responsible for delivering professional services to meet the nutritional needs of patients, ensuring the provision of evidence-based medical nutrition therapy. This role involves conducting thorough nutrition assessments and offering prioritized counseling services to participants in accordance with established federal guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver medical nutrition therapy tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Gather and analyze dietary histories, evaluate nutritional requirements, and recommend necessary dietary modifications in collaboration with clinical staff.
  • Design and implement educational programs, utilizing diverse teaching materials to enhance patient understanding.
  • Engage in community health initiatives and events as time allows.
  • Conduct nutrition research as appropriate.
  • May assume specialized roles based on patient requirements.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to collaborative discussions.
  • Possess a strong understanding of nutrition principles and apply this knowledge to provide high-quality care.
  • Engage in clinical quality assessments as required.
  • Educate patients on the connection between nutrition and health conditions, recommending relevant dietary adjustments.
  • Set achievable self-management goals with patients and conduct follow-ups as necessary.
  • Document clinical notes accurately and promptly.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Medical Nutrition Therapy

  • Collect dietary and relevant medical histories.
  • Assess nutritional needs and determine effective strategies for patient compliance.
  • Evaluate the adequacy of current diets and provide appropriate recommendations.
  • Deliver dietary education tailored to the patient's comprehension level.
  • Coordinate with clinical staff as needed.
  • Document Medical Nutrition Therapy summaries in patient records.
  • Facilitate follow-up evaluations through consultations or nutrition classes.

Patient Education Initiatives

  • Develop and execute nutrition education programs for patients.
  • Incorporate clear objectives, relevant content, and effective teaching methods.
  • Assess program outcomes and adjust curricula as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Human Nutrition, Food Science, Public Health, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or eligibility for registration with the American Dietetic Association.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual capabilities (Spanish/English, Somali/English).
  • Experience in community nutrition, particularly with low-income and high-risk populations.
