Job Title: Senior Bridge Inspector Supervisor

Join the Virginia Department of Transportation as a Senior Bridge Inspector Supervisor and play a critical role in ensuring the safety and integrity of the state's bridge infrastructure.

Job Summary:

The Senior Bridge Inspector Supervisor will be responsible for leading a team of bridge inspectors in conducting routine and specialized inspections of bridges and highway structures to identify damage, deterioration, and defects that could compromise their safety and serviceability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of bridge inspectors in conducting inspections of bridges and highway structures
  • Develop and implement inspection plans and schedules to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Conduct in-depth visual and mechanical safety inspections of bridges and highway structures
  • Assess critical conditions and report findings to management
  • Enter new or updated inventory and element data into the VDOT Bridge Management System
  • Prepare and review bridge safety inspection reports with signatory authority
  • Provide technical guidance and training to team members
  • Collaborate with other sections and contracts to ensure effective inspection and maintenance of bridge infrastructure
Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to physically perform hands-on inspections of bridges and structures
  • Knowledge of professional land surveying principles, practices, and APELSCIDLA Board rules and regulations
  • Ability to provide daily supervision to work crews following all applicable policies, procedures, and processes
  • Skill in the use of computers and software applications, including database systems and bridge inspection instruments
  • Ability to access and use required equipment
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, including performance management and discipline
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in data query using Business Objects and/or Crystal Reports
  • Proficiency with locating structures using the Roadway Network System (RNS)
  • Experience administering consultant inspections and contracts
  • Proficient in the use of AASHTOWare Bridge Management (BrM)
  • Several years' experience working as a Bridge Inspection Team Leader
