Job Overview

The Maintenance Supervisor will be tasked with overseeing the comprehensive maintenance operations within the Hatchery, which includes managing control systems and robotic machinery, while also providing essential support for the maintenance department.

This position requires the supervision of a team of Maintenance Technicians, ensuring they receive adequate training and resources to perform their responsibilities effectively. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong leadership qualities, actively engaging with the team and employing critical thinking skills to diagnose and resolve mechanical issues. The Maintenance Supervisor will also implement innovative mechanical solutions and guide team members in basic repair tasks with a focus on positive leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Management:

  • Supervise a team of Maintenance Technicians, delegating tasks and ensuring all personnel are well-trained and equipped for their roles.
  • Facilitate training for new Maintenance Technicians, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
  • Oversee routine maintenance operations within the Hatchery, including control systems and robotic equipment.

Maintenance Operations:

  • Assist in the upkeep, maintenance, and repair of the facility, which encompasses:
    • HVAC, plumbing, electrical, security, and fire alarm systems
    • Exterior structures
    • Sanitation and repair of restrooms and other facilities
    • Trash disposal and cleaning
    • Floor care
    • Painting and pressure washing
  • Operate and maintain various vehicles and equipment, including:
    • Maintenance equipment
    • Lawn mowers
    • Power tools
    • Vehicles
    • Small tractors (e.g., forklifts)
  • Respond to significant maintenance work orders and daily assignments related to common areas and facilities.
  • Complete special projects as assigned, often under tight deadlines.
  • Assist contractors with the installation of various hatchery equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections throughout the hatchery, monitoring environmental conditions.
  • Address issues as they arise and prioritize repairs accordingly.
  • Adhere to all company policies regarding biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of hatchery machinery and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Utilize a variety of tools and equipment, including automation and technical machinery.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Hatchery Manager.

Administrative Duties:

  • Manage the receipt, storage, and issuance of equipment and supplies, with the potential to order materials upon management approval.
  • Provide transportation services for pick-up and delivery.
  • Ensure the security of buildings through daily locking and unlocking procedures.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs.
  • Respond to after-hours incidents and provide on-call maintenance support.
  • Ensure compliance with state guidelines regarding maintenance practices.
  • Supervise other maintenance personnel as needed.

Safety Compliance:

  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to established safety standards and addressing maintenance needs.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and maintain work areas to prevent unsafe conditions.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all tools and equipment.
  • Follow all regulations pertaining to biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in maintenance and repair.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Preferred certifications in:
    • HVAC systems
    • Class B Boilers License
    • Plumbing
  • Basic carpentry and construction skills.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving and time management abilities.
  • Effective leadership and management skills, with the capability to motivate a diverse team.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred.
