Purpose and Qualifications

The Upper School Math Teacher serves as an advisor, math teacher, and guide for students at the respective grade level and subject area. We seek an experienced and enthusiastic educator who can provide a supportive and challenging learning environment for our students.

  • Three or more years of experience as an Upper School Math teacher is desired
  • Bachelor's degree in Math or a related field; Master's degree is preferred (if degree is in a related field, a minimum of twelve credit hours in Math is required)
  • Desire and positive enthusiasm to work with Upper School students
  • Experience working with students with learning differences
  • Proficiency in educational technology
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues
Essential Functions
  • Attend school and be punctual, including daily interactions with students and colleagues
  • Adhere to all school and division policies and procedures
  • Provide an effective learning environment and clear classroom structure
  • Utilize effective instructional skills based on diagnostic testing and incorporate appropriate modifications and accommodations
  • Plan lessons and materials to implement curriculum as outlined in the curriculum guide and support new curricular programs
  • Maintain accurate records and complete all reports thoroughly and in a timely manner
  • Communicate with students in a professional, calm, and supportive manner and serve as a student advocate
  • Work as an effective team member with other faculty, new teachers, and non-teaching staff
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and communication skills with parents and colleagues in a supportive and positive manner
  • Communicate regularly with parents; respond to phone calls or emails within 24 hours
  • Attend curriculum and staff meetings
  • Attend parent conferences at least three times a year and other times at the request of the parent or school administration
  • Complete required professional development hours annually by attending staff development, in-service programs, and other training that will impact student learning and/or lead to an advanced degree
  • Physically manage class in emergency situations, including fire drills, weather drills, and lockdown drills
  • Accompany students to various places in and out of the building, including lunch, library, special classes, gymnasium, playground, and other outdoor areas
  • Ensure safe transitions to designated areas for all school-related safety drills
  • Provide supervision in various duties as assigned, including carpool, recess, lunch, and other duties as requested
  • Support the mission of June Shelton School and Evaluation Center by promoting the school in a positive manner and facilitating a sense of community
  • Fulfill other professional responsibilities as assigned
  • Adhere to advisory guidelines and procedures if assigned
Physical Requirements
