The Graduation Coach is a critical role within Memphis Shelby County Schools, responsible for providing high school graduation assistance to students, school faculty and staff, parents, and guardians. This position plays a vital part in ensuring students successfully complete their high school education.
Key Responsibilities- Identify and Counsel Students at Risk: Analyze data to identify students or subgroups with potential high school graduation problems and develop strategies to continue their engagement in learning throughout their high school career.
- Develop and Implement Engagement and Career Plans: Work with teachers, counselors, parents, employers, mentors, and other individuals or organizations to develop and implement plans for students who are at risk for not graduating.
- Monitor and Adjust Plans: Review and monitor student's Engagement and Career Plans each semester and make adjustments as necessary, working with appropriate parties when students are not adhering to their plans.
- Provide Training and Support: Offer training and/or support to middle school and high school teachers on support measures that work with youth identified as at risk for not graduating.
- Develop Credit Recovery and Alternative Options: Work with faculty and administrators to develop credit recovery and alternative options to adapt curriculum and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of identified at-risk students.
- Implement Intervention and Prevention Strategies: Develop and implement individual, small group, and whole school intervention and prevention strategies to increase the likelihood that students will stay in school and graduate.
- Develop Transition Programs and Vertical Teams: Develop Transition Programs and Vertical Teams with Middle and High Schools to improve individual student and subgroup transition success rates.
- Collaborate with Teachers and Counselors: Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and/or advisors to assure the continued use of the transition process for 8th graders and freshmen to help students successfully adapt to the rigors of the high school experience.
- Facilitate Collaborations and Connections: Facilitate collaborations with parents/guardians, community organizations, and other resources to support student success.
- Provide Support and Outreach: Provide support and outreach to parents/guardians of students identified as being at risk of not graduating.
- Submit Reports and Participate in Professional Development: Provide and/or submit reports as scheduled/requested and attend and participate in ongoing professional development.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in education, training, subject field, curriculum, or related content area. Master's degree preferred.
- Certification: Valid Tennessee certificate in Teaching, Service (School Counseling, School Psychology, and/or School Social Work), and/or Leadership Knowledge required.
- Experience: Five (5) years of successful counseling/teaching experience required.
