Job Description

As a key member of our team at Arizona Pain, we are seeking a highly skilled Ambulatory Surgery Center Billing and Coding Specialist to join our dynamic team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of facility claims, contributing significantly to the revenue flow of our ASC.

Responsibilities:

  • Audit OP Notes, Anesthesia reports, consent forms, demographics, and other documents to ensure all patient data is accurate and valid. Research and correct any discrepancies.
  • Create claims and assign the appropriate CPT Codes (procedures) and ICD-10 Codes (diagnosis) for Personal Injury claims performed at our ASC's.
  • Manage and track all claims submissions across multiple entities/providers, including reviewing, investigating, and resubmitting pending or missing claims as needed.
  • Follow up on outstanding A/R for all payers, including handling correspondence related to insurance carriers and patients to maximize payments and resolve issues.
  • Provides technical guidance to physicians and other staff in identifying and resolving issues or errors such as incomplete or missing records and documentation, ambiguous or nonspecific documentation, and/or codes that do not conform to approved coding principles/guidelines.
  • Send medical necessity documentation to insurance companies as required to support claims.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED.
  • Associate's degree in Health Information Management or related field, preferred.
  • Certification as a Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC), required or 2+ years of Ambulatory Surgery coding experience in lieu of certification.
  • 2+ years of Billing/Accounts Receivable experience in an ASC setting, experience in interventional pain is a plus.
  • 2 - 3 years of experience with EMR software. Preferably eClinicalWorks software within the ASC module.
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Capable of multitasking effectively, prioritizing, and completing responsibilities in a timely manner.
  • Effective communication and follow-up with coworkers, patients, providers, and insurance carriers.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor in the office, over the phone, and via email.
  • Proficient in using Windows, Office 365 (Word, Excel, OneNote, Adobe, EMR systems), and other similar technologies.
