Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Rehabilitation Registered Nurse to join our team at Lifespan. As a key member of our cardiac rehabilitation program, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations and physical assessments of new patients, obtaining patient history, pertinent diagnostic data, and risk factor information from medical records.
  • Prescribe exercise for patients in Phases I through IV of the cardiac rehabilitation process, reviewing patient responses to exercise prescription with cardiac rehab exercise physiologists to ensure appropriateness.
  • Conduct supervised exercise sessions for patients, providing education and support to promote optimal health outcomes.
  • Evaluate hemodynamic, electrocardiographic, and symptomatic response to exercise, assessing appropriateness of responses to prescribed exercise intensity.
  • Assess psychosocial adjustment to illness, including depression, returns to work, family adjustments, or any significant social dysfunctions that may affect full rehabilitation.
  • Make referrals to or work with other agencies on behalf of patients, following routine standing orders, including initiation of Advanced Cardiac Life Support procedures.
  • Respond to emergencies during program hours, preparing patients for transport to the next level of care.
  • Prioritize patient care, assisting exercise physiologists in their roles to ensure appropriate prioritization.
  • Assist co-workers in interpreting and understanding electrocardiograph or physiological changes experienced by patients.
  • Provide in-service training to professionals interested in cardiac rehabilitation and exercise physiology.
  • May assist manager in functional supervision and instruction of students and volunteers.
  • Participate in projects promoting growth and development of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.
  • Maintain quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives.
Requirements
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
  • Conforms to the Code of Professional Nurses, understanding provisions of the Nurse Practice Act of the state of Rhode Island.
  • Knowledge of exercise physiology and exercise prescription required, with a Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology with a cardiopulmonary specialization preferred.
  • Experience in Cardiology, with six months of Cardiology experience required and six months of experience in Cardiac Rehabilitation preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role will work in a healthcare environment, such as acute care hospitals, physicians' offices, and ancillary healthcare enterprises, with direct patient contact. The role will require prolonged sitting, standing, and walking, with potential hazards minimized or nullified by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions.

Supervisory Responsibility

This role may be assigned technical supervisory responsibility for up to eight FTEs, with supervision limited to assigning work, scheduling, providing technical oversight, training, guidance, and counsel.
