Overview:
This role is designated for either an Emergency Medical Technician I or II based on the qualifications of the candidate. The compensation for Emergency Medical Technician I starts at $27.77/hour, while Emergency Medical Technician II can earn between $29.99/hour and $31.83/hour, contingent upon education and experience exceeding the minimum requirements.
Core Responsibilities:
The main objective of this position is to deliver urgent first-aid and medical assistance while responding to emergency situations that may involve serious injury or potential life-threatening conditions.
Key Duties Include:
- Maintain operational readiness and function as a team member in response to emergency medical incidents, providing medical stabilization to patients in the field.
- Deliver medical services and care in alignment with established emergency protocols.
- Gather, relay, and accurately document details regarding medical emergencies to enhance patient care quality; ensure timely and complete reports are provided to hospital personnel while safeguarding patient confidentiality.
- Administer medical assistance to patients when other crew members are classified as Emergency Medical Technicians or Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians.
- Provide intravenous therapy and medication to patients en route to medical facilities; perform pulmonary ventilation and collect blood samples for laboratory testing.
- Deliver emergency cardiac care and other advanced medical treatments, including administering medications through various routes and performing pulmonary ventilation.
- Engage in ongoing training to enhance skills in medical technical work and ambulance operations.
- Familiarize oneself with local road patterns and networks to ensure efficient response times during emergency calls.
- Address non-emergency requests, such as patient transport from healthcare facilities to their residences or specialized medical centers.
- Assist in the inspection and upkeep of emergency medical service vehicles and equipment.
- Test and maintain medical apparatus, including mechanical CPR devices, defibrillators, oxygen tanks, and other critical tools.
- Serve as a mentor for statewide pre-hospital education initiatives by guiding and assessing the performance of EMT trainees.
- Perform additional related tasks as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by necessary coursework in emergency medical techniques, and at least one (1) year of experience as an EMT; or a comparable combination of experience and training. Must be at least 18 years old.
- Preferred experience in emergency medical services. Certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or equivalent must be obtained within one year of hire.
- Valid driver's license issued by the state of residence.
- Credentialed as a Paramedic by the North Carolina Office of EMS.
- High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by necessary coursework in emergency medical techniques, and at least three (3) years of experience as a Paramedic; or a comparable combination of experience and training. Must be at least 18 years old.
- Certification as a Critical Care Paramedic by the International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC) or University of Maryland - Baltimore County (UMBC); ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS certifications.
- Familiarity with basic and advanced emergency medical procedures and techniques.
- Understanding of equipment and supplies used in emergency patient care.
- Knowledge of patient extrication, movement, rescue techniques, and psychological support.
- Proficiency in life support techniques in field settings.
- Awareness of local geography and road locations.
- Ability to quickly assess a victim's condition and provide appropriate emergency care.
- Capability to operate emergency vehicles safely.
- Physical ability to lift significant weight.
- Skill in interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.
