Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Pool Safety and Surveillance: Monitor pool activities to prevent accidents and ensure a safe environment for all patrons.
  • Rescue and Emergency Response: Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, including rescuing swimmers in distress and administering first aid.
  • Facility Maintenance: Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the pool area, including inspecting facilities and completing general pool cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Equipment Management: Ensure the availability and safekeeping of emergency equipment, including rescue tubes, backboards, and other essential gear.
  • Water Quality Management: Determine the chlorine content and pH value of the water, using a water testing kit, and record readings.
  • Customer Service: Provide general information on pool operation to patrons and complete required paperwork.
Requirements
  • Education and Certification: High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required; must possess valid Lifeguard Certification.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of previous lifeguard experience; preference given to those with experience working with Intellectually/Developmentally Disabled individuals.
  • Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of pool equipment and maintenance, lifesaving methods and procedures, swimming pool sanitation and chlorination systems, and ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies.
Work Environment

The work environment for this role is primarily outdoors, with regular exposure to water and water treatment chemicals. The noise level is usually moderate, and the employee may be required to perform physical crisis intervention in the event of unanticipated aggressive behavior.

Physical Demands
  • Physical Activity: Regularly swim and be exposed to aqueous environments; regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Vision Requirements: Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
