Rail Switch Operator - Track and Load Specialist needed at Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc to manage the movement of railcars and maintain the efficiency of the scrap yard operations.

As a key member of the Operations Leadership Team, the Rail Switch Operator - Track and Load Specialist will be responsible for coordinating with the Trackmobile Operator to ensure the safe and efficient movement of all railcars. This role requires a high degree of flexibility and adaptability, as the primary goal is to achieve excellence in all aspects of the position.

The Rail Switch Operator - Track and Load Specialist will adhere to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards, providing a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors. Essential functions include:

  1. Environmental and Health & Safety: Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental standards, and provide a safe working environment.
  2. Operational Performance & Best Business Practices: Couple and uncouple railcars, set and release brakes, and verify all scrap is moved from railcars before moving them from under the crane way.
  3. Equipment & Maintenance: Report all equipment deficiencies or malfunctions to the proper supervisor for maintenance and repair.

The Rail Switch Operator - Track and Load Specialist will also support the Company's Internal Control process, which includes understanding, communicating, and complying with defined internal controls, and suggesting modifications to policies, procedures, and controls to better relate to the business.

This role requires strong interpersonal skills, as the Rail Switch Operator - Track and Load Specialist will have direct contact with the Operations Leadership Team and operations production employees, communicating via face-to-face interaction and radio with yard personnel.

The Rail Switch Operator - Track and Load Specialist will be regularly exposed to all weather conditions and physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt, and will be required to wear safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, face shields, and additional personal protective equipment as needed.

Estimated salary for this position is $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED certification and related training or experience operating different types of cranes. All applicants must be 18 years of age or older and all Canada applicants must be 16 years of age or older.

Radius Recycling participates in e-verify for all new hires, and an offer of employment is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a post-offer drug screen and background check and credit check (if position specified).
