Lead Recreation Coordinator

Salary Range: $19.00 per hour
About Us:
The Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) has been dedicated to serving the community for over sixty years. As a Special Service District, GVRD operates independently from the City of Vallejo, managing a vast array of public parks and recreational facilities.
Job Overview:
Under general supervision, the Lead Recreation Coordinator is responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for participants across various recreational programs, including sports, aquatics, youth services, and special events. This role involves leading and supervising staff while performing a variety of tasks to support program operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervise and lead staff and volunteers in recreational programs.
2. Plan and implement diverse recreational activities such as crafts, games, and sports.
3. Manage program fees, issue receipts, and maintain accurate enrollment records.
4. Ensure safety protocols are followed and address any conflicts among participants.
5. Provide information to the public regarding program activities and respond to inquiries.
6. Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies, and perform first aid as necessary.
Qualifications:
Knowledge:
- General principles and practices of recreation.
- Rules and regulations governing age-appropriate activities.
- Basic techniques in arts, crafts, and sports.
Skills:
- Ability to oversee staff and maintain accurate records.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience:
Two years of experience in recreation programs or childcare settings is preferred. High school diploma or equivalent is required; college coursework is a plus.
Special Requirements:
- Valid California Driver License.
- CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
Working Conditions:
Work may occur in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to various weather conditions. Physical demands include light lifting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
