Position Overview:


Texas Oncology is seeking a Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist to enhance our laboratory operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results that support patient care.

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:15 AM - 4:45 PM.

This position is designated as a senior level based on the candidate's relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Conducting specimen analysis, instrument maintenance, and quality control procedures for moderate and high complexity laboratory tests.
- Implementing and adhering to quality assurance and safety protocols.
- Performing specimen collection and assisting with patient flow as necessary.
- Training laboratory personnel in procedures and protocols.
- Acting as the primary operator for specific laboratory instruments.
- Serving as a resource for laboratory science information.
- Overseeing daily laboratory operations in the absence of a supervisor.
- Performing clinical tests essential for diagnosing and treating diseases.
- Demonstrating clinical reasoning and technical skills to evaluate test results and determine the need for retesting or equipment recalibration.
- Conducting specialized diagnostic laboratory tests while adhering to established standard operating procedures and quality guidelines.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist position will possess the following qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related healthcare field.
- Current state licensure as required.
- AMT, ASCP, or equivalent certification is preferred.
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required.

Physical and Work Environment:
The physical demands of this role include a full range of body motion, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination necessary for operating complex laboratory equipment. The position requires prolonged periods of sitting and standing, with occasional lifting of items weighing up to 40 lbs. Vision, color perception, and hearing must be within normal ranges, along with legible handwriting.

The work environment is primarily office-based, requiring significant interaction with management, staff, and external stakeholders. Frequent travel may be necessary, comprising approximately 70% of the workweek.
