Position Overview: Gastroenterologist - IBD Specialist

The University of Kansas Hospital is seeking a qualified Gastroenterologist with specialized training or significant clinical expertise in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). This role involves contributing to the mission of providing exceptional patient care while fulfilling educational, research, and academic duties at a leading quaternary referral center.

Key Qualifications:

  • Completion of a fellowship and board certification in Gastroenterology or equivalent credentials.
  • Proven experience in managing Inflammatory Bowel Disease, preferably from a recognized treatment facility.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Kansas and Missouri.

The IBD Specialist will play a crucial role in developing our growing multidisciplinary IBD clinic, collaborating with social workers, clinical pharmacists, and psychiatric professionals. The position also includes participation in our Advanced IBD Training Program and ACGME-accredited GI Fellowship Training Program, with dedicated time allocated for academic pursuits such as teaching and research. Responsibilities will encompass a blend of clinical duties and endoscopic procedures.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a full range of general gastroenterology services, including upper and lower endoscopic procedures; the role combines outpatient and inpatient care, with a hospital call rotation for inpatient and emergency department consultations.
  • Act as a clinical mentor to GI fellows, residents, and medical students.
  • Engage in clinical trials and research initiatives.
  • Collaborate with a gastroenterology team consisting of 16 faculty members, 7 transplant hepatologists, 3 IBD specialists, and 20 advanced practice providers, including 2 dedicated to IBD.
  • Utilize endoscopy suites located at multiple sites, with plans for expansion in the near future.
  • Participate in educational conferences and training sessions.
