The Pharmacy Manager provides safe, efficient, and effective coordination of pharmacy operations at Cardinal Health, supported by a team of pharmacy personnel. Pharmacy services include Antimicrobial Stewardship, Pain Management, compounding sterile products, controlled substance surveillance, and best practices in medication management.
Key Responsibilities- Plans, coordinates, directs, and evaluates all clinical activities as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including supervision of refilling machines, medical prescriptions database entries, and dispatch of medicines.
- Plans, coordinates, directs, and evaluates all administrative activities as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including scheduling of pharmacy technicians tasks, monitoring process compliance, and monthly reporting.
- Implements processes and procedures to comply with regulations for medicine handling, including reception and storage of medicines, inventory, and expenses controls.
- Manages day-to-day activities of the pharmacy technicians and monitors their performance to meet departmental goals.
- In the absence of medicines, communicates with nursing, doctors, and administrative areas to provide alternatives and makes and/or supervises preparation of intravenous drugs.
- Maintains pharmacist's certifications and maintenance of database privileges and access controls to medical records.
- Provides pharmaceutical care to patients as a staff pharmacist.
- Assesses and maintains pharmacy inventory and executes necessary orders, including reviews, to maintain optimal supply and ongoing availability of drugs, identifying and procuring alternative drugs to mitigate risks, when necessary.
- Leads processes for hiring of pharmacy staff, onboarding, and performance management, including leadership of competency evaluations process and documentation.
- Manages internal workflows of acute pharmacy, including optimization of staffing and scheduling to maintain best-in-class and streamlined pharmacy operations.
- Participates in meetings and provides insight to hospital committees to ensure coordination among cross-functional groups.
- Assists in execution of plans for lowering costs, increasing efficiency, and driving profitable growth to support strategic business objectives in the acute pharmacy business.
- Assumes responsibility for Quality Assurance monitoring and completing End of the Month reports as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy.
- Bachelor's degree in pharmacy or PharmD.
- Must be a 'good standing' licensed Pharmacist in the state of North Carolina, or able to obtain licensure.
- Prior inpatient/hospital experience highly preferred.
- Prior management experience highly preferred.
- IV experience/certification preferred.
- Completion of a pharmacy residency preferred.
- Board certification(s) preferred.
- Computer savvy to learn and perform successful operation of multiple pharmacy information systems.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel/PowerPoint/Word).
- Ability to see, hear, write, and speak clearly in order to communicate with customers and healthcare professionals.
- Excellent planning, organizing, and leadership skills.
- Strong customer orientation and negotiation skills.
