Wildland Fire Conservation Specialist

The Student Conservation Association is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Wildland Fire Conservation Specialist to join our team. As a member of our Conservation Corps, you will play a critical role in supporting wildland fire management and conservation efforts in the US Forest Service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with prescribed burning and fuel reduction efforts
  • Support wildfire response and suppression efforts
  • Conduct conservation tasks as identified by the US Forest Service
  • Participate in regular Physical Training (PT) throughout the season
Requirements:
  • Ability to pass the Work Capacity Test at the arduous level
  • Ability to work variable hours, including long days and weekends
  • Ability to perform manual labor for up to 10 hours per day
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience working in an outside setting
  • Prior experience working as a member of a team
  • Passion for wildland fire and conservation work
Benefits:
  • Living allowance: $300/week (pretax)
  • Commuting allowance: $300/week (pretax)
  • Onetime $650 travel allowance (pretax)
  • Shared housing with crew
  • Meals (during work days)
  • Eligibility for 675hour AmeriCorps education award ($2,626.27)
  • Eligibility for a Public Land Corps Certificate for Noncompetitive Hiring Status
