Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Produce Order Writer to join our team at Whole Foods Market. As a key member of our produce department, you will be responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate ordering of produce products, maintaining inventory levels, and providing exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Purchase and replenish produce products through proper buying procedures, ensuring optimal inventory levels and minimizing waste.
  • Monitor and act upon open PO reports for both purchases and credits in a timely and accurate manner, maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Control spoilage and shrink, achieving turn goals and participating in inventory management to optimize stock levels.
  • Complete spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required, maintaining accurate records and adhering to company standards.
  • Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for stocking and merchandising products, ensuring a visually appealing and well-organized store environment.
  • Ensure orders for product are timely and accurate, monitoring inventory turns and making adjustments as needed to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Oversee customer special order procedure, providing exceptional customer service and ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment of customer requests.
  • Analyze and control product transfers, waste, and spoilage, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to minimize losses.
  • Support leadership in conducting inventories, providing accurate and timely information to inform business decisions.
  • Maintain financial profitability by meeting and exceeding purchasing and sales targets, ensuring a high level of efficiency and effectiveness in all aspects of the job.
  • Arrive to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed, and ready to work, working all scheduled shifts and attending required trainings and meetings.
  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing needs of customers in a timely and effective manner and modeling suggestive selling techniques, answering phones and pages promptly and courteously.
  • Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product, ensuring a high level of visual appeal and customer satisfaction.
  • Follow and comply, or ensure compliance, with established procedures, including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices, maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
  • Maintain, or ensure maintenance of, a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment, maintaining equipment in accordance with Whole Foods Market cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned, ensuring accuracy of signs and pricing, and immediately reporting safety hazards and violations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by store, regional, or national leadership, demonstrating a willingness to adapt and grow with the company.
Requirements
  • 12+ months retail experience, with a strong background in produce or grocery ordering and inventory management.
  • Extensive produce product knowledge, including production, distribution, seasonal availability, advances, and trends.
  • Familiarity and/or willingness to learn about products, nutritional information, and other areas of study.
  • Working knowledge and application of all produce-related merchandising expectations.
  • Demonstrates a desire to grow with the produce team, with a strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to educate team on product knowledge and convey enthusiasm, with strong basic math skills and knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ordering systems.
  • Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team, with ability to deliver information in a clear and respectful manner to fellow team members, customers, and vendors.
  • Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and team members, with a passion for natural foods and the mission of Whole Foods Market.
  • Ability to follow directions and procedures, with effective time management and organization skills, and a strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
  • Understanding of and compliance with Whole Foods Market quality goals, with ability to maintain a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment, and maintain equipment in accordance with Whole Foods Market cleanliness and safety standards.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours.
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
  • Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Exposure to temperatures: 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
  • May require use of ladders.
