About the Role

As a Patient Financial Counselor at Providence St. Peter Hospital, you will be part of a team that provides direct interaction with patients and their families, either on the phone or in person. Your primary responsibility will be to ease the way in resolving patient accounts through financial clearance, payment collection, obtaining sponsorship, and financial assistance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with patients and their families to understand their financial situations and develop personalized plans to resolve their accounts.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure seamless financial clearance and payment processes.
  • Utilize automated account follow-up systems, preferably in Epic, to track and manage patient accounts.
  • Work closely with healthcare teams to identify and address financial barriers to care.
  • Provide education and support to patients and families on financial assistance options and resources.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two or more years of experience in a hospital, clinic, or healthcare business office.
  • Minimum of three years of experience required, or proven success as a Patient Financial Advocate Associate, preferably with Providence St. Joseph Health or its affiliates.
  • Experience in automated, computerized account follow-up systems, preferably in Epic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of reimbursement of healthcare accounts from insurance companies.
  • Previous experience with medical and health plan terminology.
