Job Title: Financial Counselor

Job Summary:

A Financial Counselor serves as the liaison between patients and the practice, coordinating payments, assistance, and communication of financial responsibilities. Performs quality control functions for pre-certification and prior authorization, ensuring patients' insurance benefits are up-to-date in electronic medical records and billing software.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and coordinate pre-certification and prior authorization processes with insurance companies.
  • Review patient schedules and treatment plans to establish financial responsibility.
  • Verify insurance benefit coverage and patient fiscal responsibility.
  • Generate estimates of service and review with patients, explaining insurance benefits and fiscal responsibility.
  • Obtain necessary information from patients for assistance income guidelines.
  • Identify and review patient ageing balances and establish proper arrangements.
  • Communicate openly with providers, nursing staff, and coworkers to discuss fiscal responsibility and other items.
  • Work closely with outside entities to ensure full collaboration and completion of forms and items.
  • Assist patients with completing necessary paperwork for assistance and grant-funded programs.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required; further education or degree a plus.
  • A minimum of two years' prior experience in the healthcare field, preferably in a clinical or business office setting.
  • Prior healthcare customer service, medical terminology, and insurance verification experience.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills, with proven insurance knowledge requirements.
  • Cash handling and monetary collection experience, with the ability to calculate and collect patients' responsibility and insurance co-pay/coinsurance.
