The Steinway Inc. Safety Manager will be responsible for developing and administering plant safety programs in accordance with regulatory requirements and corporate policies and standards. This includes fostering awareness, engagement, and accountability for safety initiatives, as well as directing plant safety activities to prevent injuries and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Main Responsibilities- Develop and Implement Safety Programs
The Safety Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs, aligned with Steinway's safety standards. This will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate safety risks.
Foster a Positive Safety CultureThe Safety Manager will foster a proactive and positive plant safety culture by collaborating across the safety network. This will involve promoting a culture of safety awareness and accountability among employees.
Lead Safety PlanningThe Safety Manager will lead safety planning at the facility, including goal setting, prioritizing facility safety needs, capital and operating expenses related to safety, and establishing adequate systems for tracking results and continuous improvement.
Investigate IncidentsThe Safety Manager will oversee the facility incident investigation process to ensure incidents are reported in a timely manner, investigations are conducted properly, root causes are identified, and corrective actions are tracked to closure.
Develop Injury Prevention and Compliance PlansThe Safety Manager will ensure a proper plant injury prevention plan exists to continuously improve safety performance. Additionally, they will ensure a proper plant compliance plan exists to ensure awareness of, and good standing with, regulatory and Steinway safety requirements.
Provide Training and InformationThe Safety Manager will provide training and information to all employees as needed to satisfy regulatory and Steinway safety requirements.
Partner with Site and Department LeadersThe Safety Manager will partner with site and department leaders and employees on the implementation of safety initiatives.
Inspect the FacilityThe Safety Manager will inspect the facility to identify safety and health risks.
Prepare and Schedule TrainingThe Safety Manager will prepare and schedule training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
Conduct Safety Inspections and Self-AssessmentsThe Safety Manager will conduct and/or coordinate safety inspections and self-assessments to assure compliance with global safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Maintain Safety RecordsThe Safety Manager will ensure that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed. Additionally, they will maintain records of discharge or employee exposure to hazardous materials as required.
Work with Engineering FunctionThe Safety Manager will work with the plant team and engineering function to design, install, and maintain new or modified equipment/processes as necessary to ensure safety risks are well managed.
Coordinate Safety Compliance ActivitiesThe Safety Manager will coordinate and support safety compliance activities, such as emissions control, waste disposal, etc.
Develop and Deliver Safety TrainingThe Safety Manager will plan, develop, deliver, and coordinate effective safety training to plant employees, temporary workers, contractors, and visitors, as necessary, to satisfy regulatory and company safety requirements and assure proper safety awareness.
Requirements- Qualifications, Education, and Experience
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in environmental safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or a related field. A Master's degree is desirable. Five years of related experience is preferred.
Knowledge and SkillsThe Safety Manager will require extensive knowledge of safety regulations and policies. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are also required. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Technical SkillsThe Safety Manager will be proficient in technology and equipment used in safety inspections. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software is also required.
Physical DemandsThe Safety Manager will be physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer are expected. The ideal candidate must be able to lift to 25 pounds at a time.
