Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our school facilities, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for our students and staff. Key responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning and maintaining classrooms, restrooms, hallways, multipurpose room, offices, staff lounge, and all interior and exterior areas of the school.
  • Scheduling and executing routine maintenance tasks, including replacing lights, changing filters, and performing minor repairs.
  • Responding to emergency cleanups during the day, such as clogged drains and spills.
  • Performing minor routine grounds-keeping duties, including picking up litter, weeding, and mowing the lawn.
  • Reporting required repair work to the proper parties.
  • Scheduling and arranging furniture for assemblies, meetings, and special events.
  • Maintaining awareness and readiness to respond to safety/security needs of students, staff, and facilities.
Additional Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will also be responsible for:

  • Demonstrating knowledge of and support for the Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, value statements, policies, and procedures.
  • Performing other related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Competencies:
  • Knowledge of safe and efficient use of cleaning materials, chemicals, tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to complete minor maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs and filters.
  • Ability and willingness to safely meet the physical requirements necessary to perform the required duties, including ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move heavy objects on a regular basis.
  • Ability to maintain simple records.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with children of different ages in a school setting, respecting and understanding boundaries.
  • Minimum educational level: None.
  • Experience required: 1-3 years of custodial experience preferred.
  • Physical requirements:
  • Stand, walk, or bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull.
  • Move, lift, and/or carry up to 30 pounds to shoulder height.
  • Repetitive use of hands (i.e., fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping).
  • Demonstrate normal depth perception.
  • Sitting, walking, or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone.
  • See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone with or without auditory aides.
  • Work authorization requirements:
  • Clear the Department of Justice background screening.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Provide health (TB) clearance (most update every four years).
Work Environment

The work environment characteristics are representative of those in a normal office, classroom/school setting which one might encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Work indoors in a standard office environment, computer lab, and/or classroom environment.
  • Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Exposure to dust, oils, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Some exposure to childhood and other diseases in a school environment.
  • May be required to work outside of typical work days and office hours to meet operational deadlines.
