Field Technician II - Construction Materials Testing

The Construction Technician role involves executing various testing procedures, conducting project-specific observations, and performing site evaluations under minimal supervision and established protocols.

The Building & Construction division provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services, along with building science solutions, to ensure Total Quality Assurance in the built environment. Our team supports the A/E/C industry with a comprehensive range of capabilities both in laboratories and on-site.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a variety of testing, project-specific observations, and site evaluations under limited supervision and according to detailed procedures.
  • Operate testing apparatus and perform assessments (e.g., soil, concrete) while compiling data reports.
  • Utilize drawings, specifications, and diagrams to guide work.
  • Employ specific methods to monitor site activities and execute tasks.
  • Interpret plans and specifications accurately.
  • Maintain and calibrate standard testing equipment.
  • Oversee and execute complex assignments and tasks.
  • Participate in project meetings independently.
  • Train junior technicians.
  • Document detailed observations and provide limited interpretations of results.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and data from testing outcomes.
  • Utilize calculators for mathematical computations related to test results.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and project teams.
  • Adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure personal and team safety.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Construction Materials Testing required.
  • ICC/IBC Certifications in areas such as Structural Masonry, Reinforced Concrete, Fireproofing, or Structural Bolting.
  • ACI Certification and NICET Certification preferred.
  • Ability to supervise and lead team members.
  • Basic math, calculator, and computer skills are essential.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to read and comprehend technical documents.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
  • Valid Driver's License and a reliable driving record are required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to frequently lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds; occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and discern sounds.
  • Occasional kneeling and squatting required.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Occasional climbing may be necessary.
