Academic Program Coordinator

The Academic Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the educational support initiatives for students, including academic advising, student leadership development, freshman orientation, and senior college readiness. This role also includes managing the academic aspects of a summer program, which encompasses instructor recruitment and curriculum design, as well as training and classroom management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitates the recruitment of incoming 9th-grade students, ensuring all necessary documentation and application processes are completed for program participants.
- Administers and evaluates needs assessment tools for new students, creating tailored Individualized Academic Plans (IAP) based on assessment outcomes.
- Monitors academic performance through mid-term, quarterly, and semester reports, providing guidance and developing strategies to enhance student success.
- Prepares and disseminates progress reports or academic alerts to students and their guardians as necessary to promote academic achievement.
- Advises students and their families on course selection to ensure successful completion of secondary education and preparation for higher education.
- Maintains collaborative relationships with personnel at target schools to coordinate services effectively.
- Recruits and collaborates with summer instructors and teaching assistants, ensuring a high-quality educational experience.
- Oversees the comprehensive development of the summer program, particularly focusing on academic curriculum and classroom management.
- Coordinates with the director and academic coordinator to prepare monthly schedules and newsletters.
- Plans and organizes monthly workshops and community service initiatives, subject to director approval.
- Provides ongoing support to instructors and staff regarding student needs and progress.
- Documents student interactions and tracks progress towards academic goals, keeping staff informed of any concerns.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures for the academic program, subject to director approval.
- Offers guidance to the Student Leadership Council, comprised of student representatives from each grade level.
- Assists in enhancing technological communication methods, including website and social media engagement.
- Participates in professional development opportunities relevant to job responsibilities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- At least two years of experience working with youth from first-generation and/or low-income backgrounds.
- Strong background in curriculum development, college access, and experiential education is highly recommended.
- Experience in planning events and trips for youth is desirable.
- Familiarity with educational evaluation processes.
- Knowledge of secondary and postsecondary educational institutions.
- Experience working with diverse populations is preferred; a commitment to serving diverse communities is required.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while maintaining organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications, with a willingness to learn additional relevant software.
- Experience with grant funding and compliance is a plus.
