The Project Engineer for Service Operations will oversee projects executed by the Service Division, typically involving projects with a duration of less than one month and contract values ranging from $500 to $100,000.

This role is accountable for estimating tasks, coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients. The Project Engineer will manage costs, scheduling, material procurement, quantity tracking, project timelines, and collaboration with project superintendents and external consultants. The position emphasizes high standards of safety, quality, and a commitment to customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:
With support and direction from the Service Manager, this position will focus on the following:

  • **Client Engagement:** Interact with clients, responding promptly to ensure an outstanding customer experience. Address concerns, coordinate schedules to accommodate client needs, and prepare necessary project documentation.
  • **Project Initiation:** Generate all internal requirements essential for accurate job setup. Collaborate with clients to conduct site assessments and develop estimates and schedules that align with client deadlines. Acquire materials, permits, create project timelines, conduct meetings, and manage job site mobilization to guarantee effective project execution.
  • **Financial Oversight:** Create work orders, estimates, and manage project budgets, including change orders. Ensure timely submission of client, subcontractor, and vendor invoices. Prepare subcontracts and master service agreements for the Service Manager's review.
  • **Material Procurement:** Understand material specifications provided by clients and proactively manage lead times to keep the project on track. Monitor all required procurement needs (e.g., permits, drawings, materials).

Project Management:
Develop overall short-term work schedules, review daily field activities with the Service Foreman, clients, subcontractors, vendors, or other project stakeholders to ensure project success.

  • **Documentation Management:** Process work orders, change orders, shop drawings, invoices, and service documents. Respond to RFIs, assist in tracking work scopes by maintaining the log/submittal schedule, monitor project safety expectations, and keep project filing organized.
  • **Project Completion:** Ensure timely project closeout, including the completion of punch lists and submission of closeout documents. Secure final project payment from the owner and distribute to subcontractors. Collaborate with accounting to ensure projects are billed promptly at closeout.
  • **Safety Compliance:** Adhere to the highest standards of safety and quality.
Qualifications and Education Requirements

Education:

  • BA Degree in Construction Management or a related field preferred. Documented experience may substitute for a degree.

Work Experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in service, estimating, and/or construction management in commercial remodeling and/or new building construction.
  • Basic understanding and willingness to learn building codes and ADA regulations.

Technical Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Projects.
  • Experience in Estimating, Job Costing & Project Management preferred, with a willingness to learn new software.
  • Familiarity with Viewpoint Vista preferred, with an openness to learn new software.
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam preferred, with a readiness to learn new software.

Professional Competencies:

  • Ability to assist and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously at various stages of activity.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work with clients based on their needs.
  • Knowledge of construction estimating, both conceptual and unit quantification.
  • Aptitude for effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Able to maintain accurate and detailed records.
