About the Opportunity

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State University is seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Head of the department. As a key academic leader, the successful candidate will be responsible for visioning, strategic planning, and overseeing academic and research programs, managing operations, finances, faculty and staff affairs, and sustaining and building external relations. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of administrative experience, productive scholarship in human development, and a commitment to fostering a positive organizational culture with an emphasis on inclusivity and transparency.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the department in achieving its strategic goals and objectives.
  • Oversee academic and research programs, including curriculum development, research initiatives, and faculty development.
  • Manage departmental operations, including budgeting, personnel management, and facilities management.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external partners, including alumni, industry leaders, and community organizations.
  • Advocate for the department and enhance its visibility and reputation.

Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in the discipline or a closely related field.
  • Administrative experience in an academic setting, including budget management and personnel management.
  • Productive scholarship in human development, including research and publication.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive organizational culture with an emphasis on inclusivity and transparency.
