Job Description and Position Requirements

The Applied Research Laboratory's Geospatial and Imaging Division is seeking a highly skilled and experienced leader to head its Imaging Science and Computer Vision Department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering and science, with expertise in leading multidisciplinary teams and research efforts in a fast-paced environment.

This position may be filled as either a Research and Development Engineer or a non-tenure Research Faculty. The successful candidate will be responsible for mentoring and supervising department personnel, leading programs and teams, and collaborating with geospatial imagery analysts to advance the discovery and modeling of associations, trends, patterns, and system dynamics.

The department head will be responsible for developing and implementing processes and algorithms to transform traditional GEOINT imagery and open-source data into spatio-temporal information describing places, events, and activities. They will also be responsible for modeling the physics of remote sensing systems to associate real-world objects with known signatures and doctrines.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of leading research efforts, developing automated analytics, and collaborating with diverse domains to further scientific understanding and analytic tools. They will also be responsible for growing career and capabilities, planning and conducting applied research, providing technical guidance and oversight, and leading large research efforts.

This position requires a strong background in engineering or science, with a minimum of 5 years of related experience. A Master's degree or higher is preferred. The successful candidate will be able to adapt and learn new skills, execute specific research projects, and meet task deadlines and goals.

The Applied Research Laboratory is an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serves as a University center of excellence in defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas.

This position will require successful completion of standard background checks and a pre-employment drug screen. U.S. citizenship is required for the applicant.
