Qualifications
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a hospital setting is required for inpatient roles; retail experience is preferred for retail positions.
- A Bachelor of Science (BS) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree is mandatory.
- Eligibility for licensure by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) is required, with a Texas license to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Certification in sterile compounding (IV) accredited by ACPE is necessary.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an accredited course is required by the start date.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required for inpatient roles within six months of employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute job functions in alignment with organizational policies, performance improvement objectives, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Accurately perform computer order entries in a timely manner.
- Review and update medication profiles, ensuring accuracy regarding therapies and patient charges.
- Evaluate medication orders for therapeutic appropriateness, identifying duplications and interactions.
- Document interventions and seek clarification when necessary.
- Demonstrate effective multitasking and problem-solving abilities with minimal supervision.
- Assume leadership when necessary, making informed decisions and exercising sound judgment.
- Maintain competency across multiple areas through cross-training.
- Enforce formulary systems and adhere to departmental policies regarding non-formulary products.
- Participate in the cost-effective selection and utilization of pharmaceuticals.
- Communicate drug information professionally to healthcare providers.
- Assist in educating patients and families about drug therapies and potential side effects.
- Document clinical activities effectively, showcasing cost savings and critical information for follow-up.
- Aim to enhance patient satisfaction as measured by relevant metrics.
Additional Responsibilities
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and support personnel.
- Delegate tasks appropriately and ensure the accuracy of medications prepared for distribution.
- Conduct audits of controlled substances in compliance with regulations.
- Investigate and address discrepancies in medication usage.
- Engage in personal development through educational programs and meetings.
- Participate in the orientation and training of new employees.
- Contribute to the clinical program and support pharmacy initiatives.
- Monitor specific drug therapies and recommend dosage adjustments based on evaluations.
- Perform duties that may involve direct patient interaction or management of patient records.
- Complete other assigned tasks as necessary.
