Key Responsibilities

The Procedure Nurse plays a vital role in supporting physicians and healthcare staff in delivering comprehensive care to patients throughout the procedural process.

Core Duties

The responsibilities of the Procedure Nurse can be categorized into three main areas: (a) Circulating, (b) Moderate Sedation, and (c) Pre/Post-Operative care. Depending on the procedure and team dynamics, the nurse may engage in one or more of these functions.

Circulating Duties

In the procedural setting, the Circulating Nurse is tasked with overseeing all aspects of patient care, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment while maintaining a broad perspective on the team's activities. Key functions include:

  • Understanding aseptic principles and sterile techniques.
  • Familiarity with specialized equipment utilized in the procedure room.
  • Conducting inventories of necessary items before and after procedures.
  • Preparing the procedure area for patient arrival.
  • Verifying patient identity and procedure through at least two identifiers.
  • Responding to critical situations following nursing standards and protocols.
  • Positioning patients to minimize risks and injuries.
  • Maintaining a sterile field and managing sterile supplies.
  • Adhering to OSHA safety regulations.
  • Assisting with patient transfers to and from procedure tables.
  • Supporting the sedation nurse with monitoring and documentation.
  • Applying necessary monitoring devices prior to procedures.
  • Communicating relevant information to pre/post-operative nursing staff.
  • Performing additional related tasks as required.
Moderate Sedation Responsibilities

The Moderate Sedation Nurse is accountable for administering sedation in accordance with nursing regulations and standards. Essential functions include:

  • Demonstrating knowledge of anatomy, pharmacology, and potential complications related to sedation.
  • Monitoring equipment functionality to ensure patient safety.
  • Assessing patient needs before, during, and after sedation administration.
  • Understanding oxygen delivery principles and respiratory physiology.
  • Identifying potential complications associated with sedation agents.
  • Possessing skills to assess and intervene in case of adverse reactions.
  • Following OSHA safety protocols.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
Pre/Post-Operative Care

The Pre/Post-Operative Nurse is dedicated to providing quality care to patients undergoing procedures. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting assessments before and after procedures.
  • Ensuring all necessary consents are properly signed and documented.
  • Recording vital signs pre- and post-procedure.
  • Initiating IV therapy when necessary.
  • Educating patients about procedure risks, benefits, and post-operative expectations.
  • Evaluating post-operative conditions to confirm discharge criteria are met.
  • Documenting findings in patient records.
  • Monitoring for changes in patient conditions and reporting to physicians.
  • Executing emergency interventions as needed.
  • Performing additional related tasks as required.
Essential Skills

  • Basic computer skills and typing proficiency.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess a valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license, along with ACLS and BLS certifications. A current influenza vaccination and proof of a recent TB skin test are also required. A minimum of one year of relevant experience is preferred.

Work Environment

This full-time position may require occasional overtime. The role involves a professional office environment where the nurse will engage in various activities, including writing, typing, and operating medical equipment.
