Position Overview

ECS is in search of a Senior Systems Solutions Engineer to join our team. This role is essential for driving innovative science and technology initiatives within the Department of Energy.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of the Systems Engineering Plan (SEP) by providing critical technical insights and ensuring alignment with other program objectives.
  • Define and outline the goals of various technical projects by identifying engineering constraints and risks, breaking down the program scope into manageable components.
  • Apply human factors principles to enhance UI/UX design for graphical user interfaces, overall desktop configurations, and user interaction workflows.
  • Conduct engineering assessments to determine the best strategies for system evolution, including:
    • Creating event-driven technical plans and establishing metrics for data collection.
    • Identifying performance indicators to evaluate program health and technical advancement.
    • Documenting system dependencies, functionalities, interoperability, and performance metrics.
  • Contribute to the integrated architecture of the Department of Energy by:
    • Updating and maintaining architectural frameworks, leveraging existing data to optimize development costs and timelines.
    • Providing insights for the Information Support Plan (ISP) and delivering necessary artifacts.
    • Documenting the design of critical connections within the DOE architecture.
  • Facilitate systems engineering and interface management to support the evolution of system interface requirements as outlined in enterprise architecture documentation, including:
    • Providing input for the interface management plan.
    • Proposing changes to relevant DOE products based on interface systems engineering findings.
    • Engaging with external stakeholders to refine interface design and modernization strategies.
    • Defining and maintaining specifications for interface requirements.

Daily Duties:

  • Design, develop, and implement solutions to meet MLS requirements while conducting comprehensive risk analyses.
  • Establish and uphold information assurance and security protocols based on user, policy, regulatory, and resource demands.
  • Support high-level customers in developing and implementing relevant policies and doctrines.
  • Apply expertise to both government and commercial systems, including specialized security features.
  • Analyze, design, and develop security measures for system architectures.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field with four years of relevant experience and one or more expert-level certifications (e.g., Microsoft 365 Specialty/Expert Level, LPIC, RHCE, etc.)
  • OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field with six years of relevant experience and one or more expert-level certifications.
  • OR
  • Ten years of relevant experience with one or more expert-level certifications.
  • Must be eligible for a Top Secret or DOE Q clearance.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • 7 years of demonstrated experience in cloud-based systems engineering.
  • 7 years of experience in Agile development methodologies.
  • 7 years of experience leading teams of system engineers and/or cloud engineers.
  • Understanding of Agile and DevSecOps methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret or DOE Q Clearance.
  • Two or more years of experience supporting US Government clients.
  • Experience with complex government programs focused on research and development.
