MedStar Health is seeking a Senior Radiation Therapy Specialist to enhance our team at MedStar Franklin Square Hospital.

As a Senior Radiation Therapy Specialist, your responsibilities will include administering radiation therapy treatments, conducting simulation procedures, and assisting in the planning of treatment protocols. You will meticulously document all aspects of patient care in medical records and support the chief therapist and technical director in the implementation of new policies and achieving departmental objectives. You will also assist the Chief Therapist in the daily operations of the Radiation Therapy Center, ensuring timely patient treatment through effective communication with the Physician and office staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Document all facets of simulation, treatment delivery, and billing. Demonstrate proficiency with EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems and consistently utilize the Quality Assurance (QA) Checklist. Manage the Contingency Report and oversee daily operations in the absence of the Chief Therapist. Maintain organized and well-stocked treatment and CT simulator rooms, notifying the chief therapist of any supply needs. Report and document all equipment malfunctions to the physicist or engineer, while adhering to radiation safety regulations.
  • Actively engage in QA procedures, ensuring completion of weekly chart reviews. Perform dose verification and maintain accurate records of SSDs weekly. Acquire necessary patient imaging and assist the chief therapist in ensuring chart accuracy. Schedule simulation and treatment procedures, providing patients with initial appointment details and treatment calendars. Address scheduling conflicts promptly and evaluate missed appointments with patients and families, documenting findings in the EMR.
  • Operate the CT (Computed Tomography) simulator and related equipment. Conduct morning quality assurance procedures, emergency shutdown protocols, and follow the operation manual for the CT Scanner. Perform HDR, Mold Room duties, urethrograms, and other procedures while providing patient education on what to expect. Fabricate immobilization devices and ensure all consent forms are signed. Utilize the EMR Policy/Procedure manual and complete all necessary documentation, including photographs and billing.
  • Interact professionally with all departments, patients, and family members. Assess patient conditions and inform the physician when necessary. Document any symptoms or issues in the patient chart, demonstrating concern for patient comfort and treating all individuals with respect. Relay staff therapists' concerns to the Chief Therapist and support team decisions. Assist the Chief Therapist, Technical Director, and physicist in implementing new processes and treatment modalities.
  • Support the training of new staff, including students, by completing necessary forms and evaluations. Operate linear accelerators and administer radiation therapy treatments safely and competently. Provide ongoing patient education regarding skin care, diet, treatment side effects, and what to expect during treatment. Perform hand calculations and RadCalc dose verifications while delivering radiation treatments.
Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology program.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive clinical experience.
  • Must possess a Maryland Board of Physicians License 'O' as a Radiation Therapist, or 'M' as a Radiation Therapist and Radiographer.
  • Certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification with AED.
