Job Overview

The Patient Access Representative plays a crucial role in the Patient Access Services (PAS) team at Unity Health. This position is designed for individuals who are dedicated to providing exceptional service and support to patients and their families.


Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent; familiarity with medical terminology is advantageous.
  • Certification in all Patient Access Services functions is required within the first year of employment.

Skills and Experience:

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in typing at a rate of 25-30 words per minute and successfully complete a clerical assessment. Post-training, individuals are expected to pass internal evaluations to showcase their expertise in Patient Access Services software. Previous experience in hospital admissions, business office roles, or physician's offices is preferred.


Knowledge Requirements:

Upon completion of training, representatives must pass internal certification tests to confirm their understanding of the competencies required within the Patient Access Services Department.


Safety Considerations:

This position is classified as NOT safety sensitive. In order to maintain a safe environment for all patients, staff, and visitors, Unity Health has established guidelines regarding safety-sensitive roles. Individuals using medical marijuana, even with a valid medical card, will not be eligible for employment in safety-sensitive positions.


Role Responsibilities:

The Patient Access Representative is responsible for a variety of tasks including:

  • Conducting both outpatient and inpatient registration processes
  • Managing hospital cashiering and verifying insurance information
  • Ensuring patients meet financial obligations
  • Providing essential information to hospital users, patients, and their families
  • Facilitating effective communication to enhance patient flow and service delivery
  • Delivering outstanding customer service focused on patient needs

Physical Demands:

This role requires:

  • Sitting, standing, and walking for 3-4 hours each
  • Moderate lifting of 20-25 pounds multiple times a day
  • Frequent fine motor skills and manual dexterity for computer use
  • Good visual and auditory discrimination
