Job Overview: The Junior Accountant operates under direct supervision to apply fundamental accounting principles, ensuring precise maintenance of financial records. This role encompasses managing account reconciliations, conducting bank reconciliations, and supporting the Fiscal team on various initiatives. Utilizing foundational knowledge of accounting standards, the employee aids in the preparation of financial statements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in generating standardized financial reports in accordance with established procedures and timelines.
  • Responsible for gathering bids directly or ensuring staff compliance in submission to the fiscal office.
  • Conduct analysis of all procurement activities for necessary approvals.
  • Prepare and enter general ledger entries following prescribed procedures and utilizing various accounting systems.
  • Extract data from multiple source systems to facilitate reconciliation tasks.
  • Review and revise departmental procedures and documentation as needed.
  • Perform spreadsheet analysis to present requested financial data clearly to internal stakeholders.
  • Compile monthly and quarterly financial statements for various entities, including bank reconciliations, journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and summaries of significant events and budget variances.
  • Prepare expenditure reports and oversee grant funding.
  • Generate all required reports for assigned functional units and other entities.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all financial documents with necessary supporting materials; update records as required.
  • Provide assistance such as schedules, data, and information for the annual budgeting process.
  • Manage year-end asset depreciation for the agency.
  • Stay current with accounting principles and procedures.
  • Utilize standard office equipment and required software applications effectively.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of finance, fund accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Familiarity with financial and accounting software applications.
  • Awareness of federal and state financial regulations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Navision Accounting Software is a plus.

Skills:

  • Proficient in operating standard office equipment and utilizing required software applications, including Microsoft Office.

Abilities:

  • Analyze financial data and prepare comprehensive financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • Meet deadlines for financial reports to funders on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, along with government reports.
  • Collaborate with other functional areas to achieve objectives.
  • Interpret and apply policies, recommending changes as necessary.
  • Organize and prioritize multiple tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Manage stressful situations while providing high-quality customer service in a professional manner.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships at all organizational levels.

Educational Requirements:

  • Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: Alternatively, a minimum of three years of accounting experience (preferably in a non-profit environment) or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.
