Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech Language Pathologist to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our clinical staff, you will be responsible for providing diagnostic and treatment services to patients with communication and swallowing disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnostic Evaluations
    • Conduct thorough and timely diagnostic evaluations to identify communication and swallowing disorders.
    • Collect and analyze patient historical information to inform treatment plans.
    • Select and administer appropriate test instruments to assess speech, language, cognition, voice, articulation, and swallowing.
  • Treatment Planning and Implementation
    • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on diagnostic evaluations and patient needs.
    • Provide treatment consistent with patient skills and modify treatment as needed to achieve goals.
    • Develop and revise discharge plans in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and other caregivers.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Communicate patient-related information to nursing and other healthcare providers to facilitate continuity of care.
    • Prepare and maintain patient reports, progress notes, and related records in a thorough, organized, accurate, and timely manner.
  • Patient Education and Support
    • Provide information and guidance to patients and families regarding communication and swallowing disorders, treatment programs, and prognosis for recovery.
    • Assess patient/family knowledge and understanding to determine the level of teaching needed.
    • Teach and reinforce knowledge, providing literature as needed, and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching programs.
  • Professional Development and Quality Assurance
    • Participate in professional development activities, including in-services and conferences, to stay current with best practices and industry developments.
    • Contribute to quality assurance and safety programs by providing data and input required for quality indicators.
    • Participate in process improvement teams and evaluate environmental safety to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Assume other related responsibilities as assigned by management.
Requirements
  • Licensure
    • Speech Language Pathologist licensure.
  • Education and Experience
    • Masters degree in Speech Pathology.
    • 1-2 years of experience in speech-language pathology.
    • ASHA certification.
    • Coursework in dysphasia evaluations.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Good communication skills.
    • General knowledge of diagnostic and treatment tools.
  • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
    • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
    • May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases.
    • Direct contact with body fluids.
    • Weekends, early evening hours, and holidays.
    • Work off-campus locations, requiring travel and exposure to weather and road conditions.
