The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Insurance Risk Manager to join our team in San Francisco or Atlanta. As the principal person responsible for insurance procurement and claims management, you will play a critical role in ensuring the company's real estate investments are adequately insured.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement insurance programs that align with organizational needs, ensuring clear roles and responsibilities.
- Oversee the procurement of insurance policies, including property, general liability, construction, and corporate lines, ensuring coverage is adequate and costs are optimized.
- Manage risk exposure/resiliency/loss data, identifying opportunities for loss mitigation and collaborating with internal teams to implement strategies.
- Work with leaders to make informed decisions on coverage, costs, and carriers, ensuring the best risk-adjusted returns for our investors.
- Maintain a comprehensive record of total cost of risk (TCOR), working with internal and external teams to manage payments, allocations, and forecasts.
- Review contracts for insurance-related contractual provisions, ensuring adequacy and partnering with internal and external teams to update agreements.
- Manage insurance claims, maintaining status, identifying mitigation opportunities, and analyzing financial impact on the company.
- Troubleshoot and collaborate with other managers to advance the Risk Management function and the Legal Risk & Compliance Group.
- Develop and maintain property risk prevention/response and loss mitigation programs.
- Establish and implement updates to form insurance language in various agreements.
- Develop and manage the Risk Management annual budget.
- Conduct training as needed for team members to ensure policy compliance.
- Manage Risk Management Associate and outsourced Risk Management team members, cultivating a high-performing team that exemplifies company culture.
- Nurture and establish solid relationships with operating partners, insurance partners, lawyers, advisors, and other risk management contacts.
- Ensure timely communication of high-risk and potential liability exposures to applicable executives.
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college/university in business or related field.
- 7-10 years of experience in investment management, commercial real estate, insurance, risk management, or related fields, with experience in insurance underwriting, policy procurement, and claims handling.
- Insurance designations, such as Associate in Risk Management (ARM), a plus.
- Available for hybrid work in San Francisco or Atlanta.
