About the Role:
This position requires six (6) years of information systems experience in network engineering, or an Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, and four (4) years of information systems experience in network engineering. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, and two (2) years of information systems experience in network engineering may be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, construct, program, troubleshoot, and maintain routers, switches, modems, LANs, and WANs
- Work on an enterprise level supporting other state agencies who connect to the Department of Corrections WAN
- Collaborate with stakeholders throughout the state to ensure best business practices and the security of the network
- Modernize and optimize the department's technology
Requirements:
- Six (6) years of information systems experience in network engineering
- Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, and four (4) years of information systems experience in network engineering
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, and two (2) years of information systems experience in network engineering
Preferred Skills:
- Cisco switches
- Cisco Wireless Controllers
- Fortigate Firewalls
- Strategic planning of LANs, WANs, and network security
- Network operations and integration
- Network troubleshooting and monitoring
Working Conditions:
This position is located onsite in the Central Services office in Salem, Oregon. Working in a standard office environment with extended use of computers and other office technology. Use of video meeting software. Contact with adults in custody. Some travel may be necessary within the state.
About the Department:
The Oregon Department of Corrections is responsible for over 12,000 Adults in Custody in 12 state prisons throughout Oregon. It advises and evaluates counties regarding administration of probation and parole programs supervising more than 24,000 offenders in Oregon communities. The mission is to promote public safety by holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior.

Requirements for Employment:
You must be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following convictions are likely to result in being disqualified for this position: felony convictions, computer theft, identify theft and fraud. CJIS clearance is done at the conditional job offer.
