The Accounting Director will be responsible for leading the Accounting Department, working closely with the Director of Operations, and reporting directly to the Managing Partner to fulfill departmental and firm-wide goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and payroll operations.
- Ensure accurate accounting transactions and maintain records in the general ledger; responsible for month-end account reconciliations and preparation of monthly financial reports.
- Prepare month-end journal entries and conduct monthly reviews of general ledger details.
- Conduct monthly trust account reconciliations.
- Develop the firm's annual budget, including revenue projections, and collaborate with department heads to finalize their budgets.
- Oversee all aspects of financial reporting with interdepartmental collaboration, including profitability assessments (both firm-wide and individual timekeeper levels), compensation, rate determination, and creation of additional reports as requested by firm management.
- Authorize and process weekly payments, checks, and wire transfers.
- Create, maintain, and update process documentation; develop new documentation as necessary.
- Manage third-party vendor 1099 reporting.
- Collaborate with CPA to oversee the management of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation records using fixed asset applications; ensure the fixed asset inventory database is current.
- Assist CPA with tax-related issues.
- Establish best practice procedures for accounting functions and drive process enhancements, leveraging technology to boost efficiency.
- Lead, mentor, and develop members of the Accounting team.
- Monitor and report on essential firm financial metrics and KPIs, setting and achieving departmental OKRs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is mandatory.
- CPA license or MBA is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of general accounting experience in a law firm or professional services environment is essential.
- At least 5 years of management experience with multiple direct reports.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
- Proficient in project management, document management, and data visualization tools.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Business Central and Microsoft Dynamics or similar systems is preferred, or a proven ability to learn and adapt to new accounting software.
Compensation
Marcum Search is required by law to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for job postings in certain locations. This range is specific to particular areas and considers various factors, including skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and other business needs. Base salary: $150-215; exempt; competitive bonuses.
