Youth Care Specialist Team Leader

Position Summary
The Youth Care Specialist Supervisor is tasked with overseeing and guiding the Youth Care Specialists, ensuring effective leadership and management of their team. This role encompasses the development and performance evaluation of direct reports, along with scheduling and participating in the recruitment process. The Supervisor is accountable for maintaining safe and secure operations within the program, ensuring compliance with all relevant contractual, local, state, and federal regulations. Through strong leadership, the Supervisor will inspire and direct the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee team members and youth in alignment with operational policies to guarantee safety and security; promptly inform leadership of any incidents deviating from established protocols.
- Assist in creating work schedules to ensure adequate coverage in accordance with required ratios.
- Provide constructive and positive performance feedback to direct reports; conduct performance evaluations and submit them for review, while recommending suitable incentives and growth opportunities.
- Guide youth in the proper care and maintenance of facilities and equipment, ensuring adherence to safety protocols during the handling of program property.
- Supervise a diverse range of academic, vocational, and motivational activities both on and off-site.
- Act as a mentor and positive role model for both youth and team members.
- Communicate essential information to team members and supervisors effectively, utilizing the Behavior Modification System to redirect and coach youth.
- May be responsible for medication dispensing and administering first aid and CPR during emergencies, in line with national standards.
- Support the establishment of positive youth conduct and discipline, leading or participating in reinforcement and interdisciplinary meetings.
- Participate in day and/or overnight trips and special activities, which may involve extended work hours.
- Attend and maintain certifications in crisis intervention and physical restraint as mandated by state and contract requirements.
- Prevent and manage youth altercations using state-approved training methods; escalate serious disciplinary issues to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications from recognized organizations.
- Engage in all required training and professional development events to uphold necessary certifications and licenses.
- Operate institute vehicles as needed, adhering to relevant policies.
- Assist with special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A minimum of six months in a supervisory role is necessary.
- At least one year of experience working with youth, preferably within the Juvenile Justice System.
