JOB DESCRIPTION
CUSTODIAN
Job Purpose Statement: The role of the Custodian is performed under supervision to maintain designated areas of the buildings in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition, while also executing related tasks as necessary.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Maintains facilities (e.g., sweeps, cleans, waxes, polishes floors) to ensure a sanitary, safe, and appealing environment.
  • Responsible for securing and unlocking buildings and gates.
  • Cleans educational facilities (e.g., classrooms, offices, multipurpose rooms, hallways, grounds) to uphold a sanitary, safe, and attractive atmosphere.
  • Communicates with site personnel and the head custodian to provide information regarding the proper maintenance of facilities.
  • Operates cleaning equipment such as scrubbers, buffers, and vacuum cleaners.

Other Job Functions:
Assists in the upkeep of grounds surrounding buildings; rearranges and moves furniture.
  • Performs tasks such as replacing light bulbs, clearing plumbing blockages, and aiding in maintenance projects.

Job Requirements - Qualifications:
Experience Required:
One year of relevant experience in a school or institutional environment.
  • Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:

Skills: Proficient in using cleaning agents, supplies, and equipment; capable of performing basic math for accurate dilution of cleaning agents.

Knowledge: Familiarity with methods and usage of cleaning materials, equipment, and supplies, as well as safe work practices, including preferred methods for cleaning and maintaining floors and walls.

Abilities: Ability to follow oral and written instructions, adhere to safe work practices, work independently with minimal supervision, perform a variety of tasks, adapt to flexible assignments often with short notice, and communicate effectively with students, staff, and the public. Skilled in using cleaning materials and equipment efficiently and capable of performing heavy physical labor.

  • Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or:

Testing Required:
Valid Driver's License and proof of insurability, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, and current TB clearance.
