JOB DESCRIPTION
CUSTODIAN
Purpose of the Role: The role of the Custodian is performed under supervision to ensure that designated areas of the buildings are kept clean, sanitary, and safe; and to carry out related tasks as necessary.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Maintains cleanliness of facilities (e.g., sweeping, mopping, waxing, polishing floors) to uphold a sanitary, safe, and appealing environment.
* Responsible for securing and accessing buildings and gates.
* Cleans educational facilities (e.g., classrooms, offices, multipurpose rooms, hallways, outdoor areas) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and inviting atmosphere.
* Communicates with site personnel and the head custodian to provide information regarding the proper upkeep of facilities.
* Operates cleaning equipment such as scrubbers, buffers, and vacuum cleaners.
Additional Responsibilities:
* Assists in the maintenance of the grounds surrounding buildings; rearranges and moves furniture as needed.
* Performs tasks such as changing light bulbs, addressing plumbing issues, and assisting with maintenance projects.
Qualifications:
* Experience: A minimum of one year of relevant experience in a school or institutional environment.
* Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Proficient in using cleaning agents, supplies, and equipment; capable of performing basic calculations for the accurate dilution of cleaning solutions.
Knowledgeable about cleaning methods, materials, equipment, and safe work practices, including preferred techniques for maintaining floors and walls.
Ability to follow both oral and written instructions, adhere to safety protocols, work independently with minimal oversight, manage various tasks, adapt to changing assignments, and communicate effectively with students, staff, and the public. Skilled in using cleaning materials and equipment efficiently and capable of performing physically demanding tasks.
* Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
* Certifications: Valid Driver's License and proof of insurability, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, and current TB clearance.
