About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Technologist Senior to join our team at Memorial Hermann Health System. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for evaluating, performing, and overseeing various laboratory tests and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and perform laboratory tests and procedures to ensure accurate and timely results.
  • Oversee and evaluate the performance of testing, quality control, maintenance, and procedures for assigned areas.
  • Prepare monthly quality summary reports documenting the performance of instruments, quality control, linearity, service visits, and clinical service issues.
  • Coordinate service visits and troubleshoot instruments as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards associated with governing and accrediting agencies, including TJC, FDA, CAP, AABB, CMS, HCFA, and CLIA.
  • Teach, assess competency, mentor, and precept other laboratory employees and students in technical procedures and policies, quality control, maintenance procedures, performance improvement, production efficiency, and customer service.
  • Provide input into Medical Technologists' initial, six-month, and annual training, performance appraisals, and annual competency.
  • Demonstrate leadership and perform duties in a manner to promote quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction, while promoting safety, cost efficiency, and a commitment to the PI process.
  • Support intradepartmental cohesiveness, practice teamwork, acknowledge and appreciate other employees' strengths, communicate effectively with laboratory staff, MLS, and Laboratory Director, provide and ask for feedback, accurately document and report issues, observations, and solutions for the Laboratory Director or Manager.
  • Interact with hospital personnel, volunteers, physicians, and patients regarding specimens and orders coming into the Laboratory and/or reporting results according to the policies and procedures of Laboratory Services and with sensitivity to customer needs.
  • Ensure safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; support department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serve as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrate commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Model Memorial Hermann's service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a biological science required (equivalency required for foreign education); (incumbents hired into this job prior to 7/1/2019 Bachelor's is not required)
  • Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Medical Technologist (AMT), Certified CLS (ASCP), or Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International) CM, or Cytotechnologist CT (ASCP)
  • Two (2) years of pertinent experience in a high complexity laboratory in the assigned/specified area; completion of Senior Medical Technologist skills competency within one year of accepting this position
