Evening Library Services Coordinator III - Access Services

The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners is seeking a dedicated and team-oriented full-time Library Services Coordinator.

The Evening Library Services Coordinator III (LSC III) will report to the Access Services Manager and work collaboratively with colleagues in the Access Services Department to assist library patrons at the service desk, as well as through phone and online chat support.

Additionally, the LSC III will receive cross-training to provide essential library functions, including basic reference assistance, technology support, document delivery backup, collection and compilation of statistical data, and other assigned responsibilities.

Work Schedule:

The LSC III will follow the evening schedule outlined below:

  • Sunday: 2:00 PM - 10:15 PM
  • Monday - Thursday: 3:00 PM - 11:15 PM
  • Friday - Saturday: Off

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist patrons at a busy service point with all library-related inquiries.
  • Exhibit sensitivity and understanding towards students from diverse backgrounds and varying abilities.
  • Perform a range of access services tasks and circulation duties, including checking materials in and out, answering phone inquiries, responding to online chats, processing holds for patrons, and organizing deliveries from the library network.
  • Execute opening or closing tasks as required for specific shifts.
  • Address basic reference and technology-related questions.
  • Conduct inventory control tasks, including re-shelving materials, shelf-reading, assisting with weeding, and maintaining book stacks.
  • Guide patrons in utilizing the library catalog and other online databases.
  • Support the recruitment, supervision, and training of student workers.
  • Create engaging book and resource displays within the library.
  • Participate in library and university-wide outreach initiatives.
  • Collect, organize, and prepare monthly statistics on library services.
  • Attend workshops, seminars, and other educational opportunities to enhance professional knowledge.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years' experience as a library assistant in an academic or public library, including at least one year in a supervisory role.
  • General understanding of library services and operational workflows.
  • Commitment to excellence in customer service and fostering an environment of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact tactfully with others and provide effective customer service.
  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with Office 365 or similar productivity software.
  • Experience with library systems and equipment commonly found in libraries (e.g., printers, photocopiers, scanners).
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, reach, and push heavy book carts (up to 40 lbs).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or higher.
  • Experience in answering library reference inquiries.
  • Knowledge of library research methods, reference materials, and general library services.
  • Experience troubleshooting desktop computers and software (e.g., Windows 10, printer and scanner drivers, Microsoft Word and Excel).
  • Experience in documenting policies and workflows.
  • Experience in training others in processes, workflows, and policies.

Employment Type: Full Time

Salary: $1,874.61 /bi-weekly
