About the Role:

The Housekeeper is a vital member of the Maintenance department at Breaking Ground, responsible for maintaining the common areas of our residential buildings. This includes offices, multi-purpose rooms, roof deck, garden, trash collection area, lobby, fitness room, and sidewalks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sweeping, mopping, washing, dusting, and vacuuming of common areas
  • Sealing, waxing, and buffing of floors and hard surfaces
  • Maintaining the sidewalks, including raking leaves and shoveling snow
  • Cleaning individual units when vacated to prepare them for rent
  • Sorting and separating recyclables from other waste to comply with NYC regulations
  • Assisting the painter and maintenance engineer as needed
  • Setting up and cleaning up for meetings and other events
  • Performing other tasks as assigned

Requirements:

  • Minimum two years of maintenance/housekeeping experience
  • Experience operating a vacuum cleaner and high-speed buffer
  • Ability to stand for several hours during a shift and climb stairs in an emergency
  • Experience working with elderly, disabled, and/or formerly homeless populations is a plus
  • Basic computer knowledge is helpful
  • High School Diploma or Trade School or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work some weekends and holidays as required by the schedule
