The City of Brenham is excited to announce openings for law enforcement professionals, both experienced and those new to the field.

Qualifications for Lateral Applicants:
  • Must possess a valid Texas Peace Officer certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in law enforcement
  • Intermediate Peace Officer Certificate or higher from TCOLE is required
  • No service break exceeding 180 days

We also welcome candidates currently in the process of obtaining or recently licensed by TCOLE.

Position Overview:

This role involves performing routine patrol duties, responding to emergency calls, enforcing traffic regulations, engaging with community members, making arrests, and preparing necessary documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct city patrols, respond to service requests, enforce laws, and issue citations
  • Manage traffic-related duties, enforce regulations, investigate incidents, and direct traffic
  • Engage with the public, address concerns, and collect pertinent information
  • Execute arrests, compile reports, and provide testimony in court as required
  • Oversee crime scenes, carry out investigations, and participate in ongoing training
Supervisory Duties:

This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities but may involve stepping in for higher-ranking officers when necessary.

Essential Qualifications:

Candidates must fulfill all essential duties and possess the requisite skills and knowledge to succeed in this role.

Education and Experience Requirements:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required; any combination of education and experience that meets job qualifications is acceptable.

Knowledge Requirements:

Familiarity with state laws, municipal regulations, criminal statutes, departmental policies, community policing strategies, and first aid protocols is essential.

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to read manuals, write clearly, make informed decisions, operate law enforcement equipment, communicate effectively, and build community relationships.

Licenses and Certifications:

Basic TCOLE certification and a valid Texas driver's license are mandatory.

Physical Requirements:

Applicants must meet physical demands including sitting, standing, walking, reaching, lifting, and using hands and fingers efficiently.

Work Environment:

Employees may face emergency situations, collaborate closely with others, work under time constraints, and are expected to maintain a positive demeanor.
