Medical Assistant - Dermatology

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our Dermatology team at Forefront Dermatology. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our dermatologists in their daily operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Room patients and document vital information prior to exams, including chief complaint, medical history, family history, social history, and review of systems.
  • Scribe all information for the provider regarding the patient encounter, including physical exam, assessment, procedures, prescriptions, consents, operative/pathology reports, and letters sent to PCPs and/or referring providers.
  • Obtain informed consents from patients prior to procedures.
  • Assist providers with or under their supervision to perform various procedures, including surgical photographs, biopsies, excisions, Mohs micrographic skin cancer surgery, electrodessication and curettage, phlebotomy, phototherapy, injections, patch testing, instrument sterilization, and blue light.
  • Continually learn and be able to explain new and existing dermatological conditions.
  • Open sterile supplies and set up for each procedure.
  • Assist Mohs surgeons during procedures according to prescribed standards.
  • Set up procedure rooms according to prescribed standards.
  • Dress and provide wound care instruction for surgery sites.
  • Take photographs of Mohs stages, label, and organize them.
  • Handle specimens for pathology according to prescribed standards.
  • Assist in procedure room maintenance, including case preparation, room turnover, and instrument processing.
  • Prepare patients prior to procedures, obtain and reconcile medical and surgical history, and accurate lists of medications and allergies. Document appropriately in EMRs.
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, expectations, and post-operative instructions.
  • Record required information on patient logs (pathology, biopsy, lab, temperature).
  • Adhere to compliance and complete compliance training.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated expertise in safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique, and universal precautions.
  • Knowledge of and ability to disinfect, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Knowledge of or experience in equipment, such as ultrasonic cleaners and autoclaves, and understanding of processes for maintaining autoclaves.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Compile and prepare surgical packs. Run autoclave as needed.
  • Assist with inventory and storage of equipment and supplies, as well as cleaning procedure rooms.
  • Perform medical assistant duties as required for non-Mohs patients, as part of the dermatology practice.
  • Directly responsible for scheduling patients and managing the MOHS surgery schedule.
  • Provide post-procedure care, including surgical dressing changes and assisting with suture removal.
  • Demonstrate customer service skills when communicating with peers/other departments.
  • Log surgical procedures as needed.
  • Communicate problems to Physician/Supervisor/Management.
  • Must have own transportation and be willing to work in MOHS office locations.
  • Perform various clerical duties, including faxing, photocopying, scanning, filing, and mailing.
  • Recognize and perform duties that need to be performed, although not directly assigned.
  • Relay pathology and laboratory results to patients.
