This position is located in the Investigations Unit (IU) within the Office of the Inspector General (OIG), an organization responsible for promoting economic growth and preventing/detecting corruption, fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, conduct, and/or manage complex and sensitive criminal investigations of federal and District of Columbia laws and regulations.
- Provide leadership, direction, guidance, and assistance to investigative staff at all levels in initiating and conducting highly-effective reactive or proactive investigations.
- Advises staff on the use of data collection tools and methods to identify, collect, analyze, and interpret data in support of work/mission requirements.
- Determine the depth and scope of the investigation, coordinate the use of other investigative staff and resources during the course of the investigation.
- Review work products while evaluating the quality, accuracy, and relevance of investigative information to formulate findings and recommendations to IU and OIG management.
- At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the CS-12 grade level, or its non-District equivalent.
- Experience in planning, organizing, prioritizing, and conducting sensitive or complex criminal investigations.
- Experience with District and federal judicial processes, criminal statues, rules of evidence, precedent court decisions, legal aspects of criminal investigations, criminal investigative techniques, elicitation and questioning techniques, and questioned documents.
- Experience in communicating in writing, including composing complex investigative reports.
The work is performed in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing priorities; an office setting with adequate lighting, heating, and ventilation. However, duties may require frequent visits to areas with high crime rates to conduct interviews of suspects and surveillance operations, which may include exposure to extreme weather conditions outside in the elements.
