Job Summary

The State of Vermont is seeking a skilled Transportation Operations Technician II to join our team. This role is responsible for performing various tasks related to highway maintenance, including repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. In the winter months, this position will also assist with plowing and salting, and overtime may be required. Additionally, this position may assist in vehicle and equipment maintenance.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a team of dedicated professionals. As a Transportation Operations Technician II, you will have the chance to develop your skills and knowledge in a variety of areas, including construction, equipment operation, and manual labor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform various tasks related to highway maintenance, including repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more.
  • Assist with plowing and salting in the winter months, and be available for considerable overtime during heavy snowfall or other emergencies.
  • Assist in vehicle and equipment maintenance, including performing routine checks and repairs.
  • Work in a team environment to achieve common goals and objectives.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • One (1) year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor, including either one season of operating a snowplow with wings or six (6) months of operating medium or heavy equipment, such as graders, excavators, and backhoes.
  • OR Upon successful completion of original probation as a Transportation Operations Technician I and possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.
Preferred Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. A Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required, and possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement is required within the first six months of employment.
